The Portrait of Dorian Grey

Never Make A Deal With The Devil!

It's just a tale but I love telling it to children, please bear with me. You may learn something NEW yourself.

Dorian Grey lived somewhere around the 1800's. He was a very handsome young man and had everything in the world going for him. However, Dorian did something very stupid. He cut a deal with the devil! Yes, for the price of his soul, the devil promised Dorian he would stay young, be handsome and live fast forever!

That's kind of like what happened to me. At the age of 23 I cut the same deal with the devil. Sure as hell everything went according to his promise. My life was on cruise control, I could do no wrong, everything was so fast and I thought I was reallly something special. In fact, there was NO-BODY in the world quite like me.

Years later I was introduced to something called clinical major depression. Now if you're a teenager and you're reading this...

You Read It Real Good! (I'm trying to help you.)

			* I lost my job
			* I lost my family
			* I lost ALL my friends
			* I lost my life savings
			* I lost my soul
			* I was ALONE
			* I got my Sugar Shack Island and
	                            I was the ONLY ONE ON IT!

After a few years of roaming around in the darkness, I bumped into the devil again and I pleaded my case. Here is what the devil told me...

"Joe, you're staying here with me, no-one leaves my dark house alive, remember the deal we cut some years back"?

Here is what I said to the devil. I read him that list above and told him - I did not know all this was part of the deal. I don't like losing my soul, I don't like your dark house, I don't like you - and I killed him.

Kid, here I am today back in the 'light'. I don't travel so fast anymore and I sure as hell know I'm nothing special. The moral of the story is this: There is a devil in each and everyone of us, don't follow the trail I chose, make all the mistakes I made, cut yourself a deal with the devil and lose you're very soul. I was VERY lucky and slew my dragon.

You may not be so lucky.

Joe
